DIRECTOR-GENERAL of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today played down his role in the nation’s fight against Covid-19, saying he was merely “the messenger”.

With his daily press conferences providing Malaysians with updates on the Covid-19 situation, he has become the face of the country’s virus response campaign.

“I am only the messenger,” he said today, a full year after the virus first landed in the country.

Instead, he said credit for the work should go to the Health Ministry’s 250,000 employees who have worked hard.

“Every time when we have a press conference there are 100-150 people working behind the scenes, preparing the data, etc.

“We work as a team. I am not the only one.

“Sometimes people say I am the only one making decisions. It is not me but the Ministry of Health.”

He said all credit given should go to the ministry.

Noor Hisham said the media also played an important role in combatting fake news about the epidemic – January 25, 2021.

  • Voila! That's what a good and responsible leader is all about acknowledging the hard work put in by all his staff memebers. The ministers and politicians on the other hand will claim credit for themselves for whatever project or work achieved with scant regard for the input furnished by their officials.
