NAJIB Razak today said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was right to set aside political differences for the sake of the people.
The prime minister and Umno president was referring to PAS’ official decision to sever ties with fellow opposition party, PKR today.
Speaking on the 71st anniversary of Umno, Najib said he was aware of the end of the political cooperation between the two parties today.
“Even though we differ in opinion, I agree with the PAS president that we must unite in the interest of the people,” he said in his address to about 70,000 party members at the Bukit Jalil stadium.
He then said PAS and Umno are on the same stage when it comes to public and national issues.
“DAP is chauvinist, racist, and hates Islam. DAP is the enemy of Umno, and Pas does not rest when it comes to issues of public and national interest,” Najib said.
Umno’s 71st anniversary celebration was the largest event ever organised by the party, where members gave the prime minister a grand reception.
Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor was paraded around the stadium and was flanked by the party’s top leadership during his entire speech.
“I am not alone as I am surrounded by Umno leaders who are faithful to the party and its leader,” he said. – May 11, 2017.
