POLICE have identified four suspects in the murder of a man at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi, Johor Baru, said Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said police were tracking the suspects, believed to be gang members.

“The incident that occurred was due to a misunderstanding between two rival gangs.

“Police have identified the four suspects in the vehicle that was involved in the incident,” he said after attending the ministry’s monthly gathering in Putrajaya today.

The 30-year-old victim was stabbed and mowed down by a car with four men inside at the petrol station on Sunday.

The incident occurred about 7.30pm when the victim, who was with a foreign woman in her 20s, believed to be his wife, was using the air pump at the premises to inflate the tyres of their Volkswagen.

Zahid said police were investigating the two groups involved in the incident.

“We will take action against both groups. It also believed that the victim was a gang leader.”

He said police would not hesitate to take action should there be retaliation from any group.

State police chief Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd had said the four men, who were in a BMW, approached the couple and tried to drag the victim into their vehicle.

However, the victim resisted and a struggle ensued. The woman ran to seek help from the public.

Khalil said the victim managed to free himself, but the suspects then got back into their car, made a turn and mowed him down, and then reversed the vehicle and knocked him down again before escaping.

He said the man died on the spot.
