PRIME Minister Najib Razak should ask his friend US president Donald Trump to stop bullying Palestine, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu chairman said this today after a march from Tabing Haji to the US embassy in Kuala Lumpur to protest against Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
About 300 supporters endured the scorching heat to listen to opposition leaders speaking on a pick-up truck across the road from the embassy.
Dr Mahathir said Najib, who claims to be good friends with Trump, should ask the American leader to stop the bullying against Palestine.
“He (Najib) has also played golf with Trump. He can say, ‘Hey Donald stop this nonsense and pick on someone your own size’.”
Dr Mahathir said Trump’s move would only incite anger among Muslims.
“They are disappointed with this bullying against the Palestinians.
“We have to be united and put an end to hostility against the Muslims in the world.
“They are taking advantage of the weak. Where is the justice?” he said.
“If we are in school and if a bully hits a weak kid we will get angry.
“Now, there is an international bully (Trump).
“Why prey on the weak. I want to invite Trump to take action against China and not bully the weak.”
Also present at the protest was Dr Mahathir’s wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, Bersatu president Muhiyiddin Yassin, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, and Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah.
More than 30 police personnel were seen in front of the embassy and around the area.
Muhiyiddin said Trump should stop showing his arrogance since he became president.
“The (Malaysian) government must take stern action against the US by pulling back all its investments.
“This is not about politics, but about justice and human rights,” he said.
Trump had declared the US’ recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital on December 6, turning his back on decades of Washington’s diplomacy and peace efforts in the Middle East.
The Muslim world has reacted with fury over Trump’s declaration, as Palestine also claims Jerusalem as its capital.
Najib has claimed to be a golfing buddy of the American billionaire, saying that two had teed off together a few years before Trump was elected president. – December 15, 2017.
