THERE were no reports of Covid-19 infections linked to the gathering outside Kuala Lumpur High Court, where former prime minister Najib Razak was sentenced for crimes related to SRC International more than two weeks ago, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said at this juncture, the ministry has only seen cases linked to the Hari Raya Aidiladha visits, such as the Sivagangga, Kurau and Meranti clusters.
“We have not seen a trend of significant increase in cases. Most importantly, there are no reports linked to the solidarity with Najib gathering.
“However, we are still monitoring and conducting surveillance at all times,” he said.
Meanwhile, Najib took to Facebook yesterday to express relief that there were no clusters that had developed from his supporters.
“It has been 15 days since the high court’s verdict for the SRC case. This means there is no Najib cluster from the gathering as the 14-day incubation period has gone by,” he said.
However, he reminded the supporters not to repeat the mistake but to continue to comply with standard operating procedures for the wellbeing of all.
Najib supporters gathered in large numbers outside the court complex in Kuala Lumpur on July 28, the day Najib was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million for abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money-laundering in the SRC International case.
The lack of self-regulation angered Noor Hisham, about which he tweeted the same day. – August 13, 2020.
