UMNO is not anti-Chinese or racist, said its president and Prime Minister Najib Razak, refuting a common allegation hurled at the party.
The perception that Umno was racist was a lie being spread by opposition parties, Najib said in his policy speech when opening the party’s 71st annual assembly.
“
“I stress this again. Umno is not anti-Chinese. But, it is evident the Chinese community and parts of the Indian community have been trapped, and have become victims of perception and lies by the opposition.
“Umno is actually above all. We have all this while we celebrate the diversity in our country, and we believe in harmony and living together, in depending and complementing each other.”
He said the view Umno was anti-Chinese was part of war of perception that will intensify ahead of the 14th general election.
Another lie Najib said, was the story that 40,000 phantom voters had been imported from Bangladesh to vote in the 13th general election in 2013.
Another lie was that the indelible ink used during the election could be washed off, he said.
“This is the modus operandi of the Opposition. Just watch, in the 14th general election they will continue to lie and all sorts of issues will be brought up,” said Najib. – December 7, 2017.
