AN Umno lawmaker today called on Putrajaya to suspend the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) board.

The government should conduct a thorough investigation into the controversy-mired pilgrims’ fund as it is a key institution for Muslims, said Rompin MP Hasan Arifin.

“I urge the government to suspend the top management of TH until a final solution is reached.

“Who is right and who is wrong? TH is important to Muslims in this country.”

The former Public Accounts Committee chairman, debating the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat, also urged a full audit of the fund and for parliamentarians to be briefed on its standing.

“The TH Act was not enacted under Bafia. TH has its own laws, where the power lies with the minister and Parliament,” he said, referring to the Banking and Financial Institutions Act 1989.

Last week, Umno Youth submitted a memorandum asking the government to set up a royal commission of inquiry to investigate issues involving TH. – July 27, 2020.
