PRIME Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is accepted by the public and this is the reason why Umno and PAS want him retained in his position after the 15th general election, said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
According to Tuan Ibrahim, the decision was made by Muafakat Nasional, which showed the two Malay parties were not greedy for the top post.
“The decision to support Muhyiddin Yassin is a Muafakat Nasional decision. We accept him. We have other candidates, many, but what is important is that the people accept him.
“What he is doing now for the country is good, so we continue with him,” Tuan Ibrahim said in Alor Star today.
Muafakat Nasional is the pact between Umno and PAS that the two former rivals signed after losing the 14th general election in 2018.
It allows them to co-operate politically, such as supporting each other in by-elections, although they are not in a formal coalition.
Meanwhile, Tuan Ibrahim also said discussions were ongoing to decide whether Bersatu should join Muafakat Nasional.
“We are currently discussing this at the committee stage. There was a recent meeting on it involving the presidents.
“We will continue discussing this,” he said.
Bersatu is now part of Perikatan Nasional, which rules the federal government along with the support of Umno-headed Barisan Nasional, PAS and the Sarawak ruling pact GPS. – July 4, 2020.
