UPON quitting PKR, Lubok Antu MP Jugah Muyang has pledged his support to Muhyiddin Yassin at a meeting in the prime minister’s residence Sri Perdana.

Bersatu, in a brief post on Facebook, said Jugah had promised Muhyiddin his support for the Perikatan Nasional government.

Jugah was accompanied in the visit by Senior Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali and Deputy Energy and Natural Resources Minister Ali Biju.

The three former PKR stablemates had met earlier at another meeting before the appointment with Muhyiddin.

The ex-PKR Sarawak vice-president announced yesterday that he was leaving the party to sit as an independent.

“I hereby leave PKR to become an independent supporting the PN government and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government,” Jugah said in a statement yesterday night.

Jugah contested the rural Sarawak seat in 2018 as an independent and joined PKR after winning.

As a rural seat, he said Lubok Antu needs the help and support of the ruling government

“I have discussed with my supporters and they agree I should support PN.

“For the sake of peace and development of Lubok Antu, I pledge support for the PN government led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and the GPS state government led by Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg.”

Jugah’s exit from PH comes as the opposition moves to win over more MPs from the other side for the necessary support to reclaim Putrajaya from PN.

There is also talk of a snap election, given the PN government’s slim majority of 114 out of 222 votes in parliament.

Sri Gading MP Shaharuddin Md Salleh of Bersatu quit his cabinet post yesterday over his party’s decision to strike up an alliance with Barisan Nasional, PAS and GPS. – June 6, 2020.
