PUTRAJAYA has yet to enter the exit phase of the Covid-19 fight as the conditional movement-control order (CMCO) is in effect until Tuesday, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director-general of health said the relaxed movement restrictions are meant to revive the economy.

“We have already tightened our borders and taken other measures, and are abiding by World Health Organisation (WHO) regulations.

“But, we still have not yet reached the exit-strategy stage. We’re still under the CMCO,” he told a daily press conference on Covid-19 in Putrajaya today.

His comments follow WHO’s advice for countries easing coronavirus restrictions to proceed carefully or risk a spike in fresh cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said monitoring will continue for the next two weeks.

“For now, the situation is under control. If we continue to control the spread and maintain double-digit cases, or if there is a decrease in cases, we may open up more sectors.

“We have to closely monitor the situation before we can take action according to an exit strategy.

“This is still in the planning stages. What’s important is that we monitor and control cases.”

He said 74 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours, nearly double the number of new cases.

The 39 new infections announced today bring the national tally to 6,467. The death toll remains 107. – May 7, 2020.
