THE Health Ministry today said barbershops are still not allowed to reopen as there have been reports of Covid-19 cases among barbers and customers overseas.
Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said infections have been traced to such premises in the US and Japan.
“We are monitoring the situation closely before we (decide to) allow barbers to operate.
“We implemented the conditional movement-control order on May 4, and for the next two weeks, we will monitor cases and see whether there is an increase,” he told a daily press conference on Covid-19 in Putrajaya.
Whether more sectors will be allowed to resume operations depends on the trend in infections, he said.
Dr Noor Hisham earlier reported 74 Covid-19 recoveries in the last 24 hours, nearly double the number of new cases.
There are 39 new infections, bringing the national tally to 6,467.
The country’s coronavirus death toll stays 107 as no new fatalities were registered today. – May 7, 2020.
