FOREIGN workers in all sectors must undergo Covid-19 testing, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The senior minister said the National Security Council decided on compulsory screening after 27 migrant workers at a construction site in Jalan Ampang tested positive for the deadly virus.

“At the meeting today, it was decided that it will be compulsory for foreign workers in all sectors, such as construction, manufacturing and commercial, including restaurants, to undergo Covid-19 testing,” he told a daily press conference on coronavirus-related security matters today.

The cost of the tests will be borne by employers.

Ismail Sabri said if workers are found to be infected, operations at their workplace will be shut immediately.

The screening process is expected to begin in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Under the conditional movement-control order, which took effect today, most economic sectors are allowed to resume operations after a nearly seven-week halt.

Ismail Sabri said the focus of the current phase of movement curbs is on compliance with standard operating procedures. – May 4, 2020.
