BARU Bian today fuelled guesses over which political party the former Sarawak PKR chief would join next with a Facebook post saying that “the constitution of the Party Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) is quite attractive”.
The Selangau MP and former works minister, sacked from PKR for refusing to support the party president Anwar Ibrahim’d bid to become prime minister in the March political crisis, wrote that after studying the various opposition parties based in Sarawak, PSB was looking appealing.
“The objectives of PSB resonate with my ideals and I believe, with the ideals of most Sarawakians,” he said.
Baru said among PSB aims that appealed to him were a fair, just, equal and equitable Malaysian society for all peoples irrespective of race or religion; a parliamentary and democratic government system on a multi-racial basis; economic and cultural advancement of all communities; improved socio-economic status of the of the underprivileged; goodwill and harmony among Malaysians of various races for growth and progress.
“Most importantly, the party promotes multi-racialism and unity.”
Baru said whether he was joining a party or founding one himself, he would want to take a stand “similar to that of Parti Warisan Sabah”.
Warisan, he stated, “captures the sentiment and the desire of Sabahans” as a locally based party fighting for state rights and one which has become a key force in determining who occupies Putrajaya.
Above all, his new party must share “my vision of hope” for Sarawak.
Baru is back at his legal practice “as well as being an independent MP and assemblyman”.
He is the state rep for Ba Kelalan.
Thanks to the movement control order (MCO), he said he has had some time to ponder his political career.
“I am surprised many are quite interested to know what’s next”.
“I would prefer not to engage in political matters now but to focus our energies on combatting Covid-19, but under the circumstances, I am compelled to issue a statement on my thoughts for the future.”
PKR has sacked nearly all its Sarawak divisional leaders who were aligned to Baru. In the process, PKR has lost three assemblymen – See Chee How (Batu Lintang), Ali Biju (Krian) and Baru.
Ali is also the Saratok MP. The other MP booted was Willie Mongin ( Puncak Borneo). – April 16, 2020.
