DON’T travel if you have a fever, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah following the announcement that Malaysia Airlines will resume flights from the peninsula to Sabah and Sarawak.

“We have to screen passengers before they board their flights and after they reach their destination, be it Sarawak or Sabah,” the director-general of health told a daily press conference on Covid-19 today.

He was asked about the Transport Ministry’s statement that the flag carrier will operate the flights this week.

This follows the Sarawak government’s complaints on the move by local airlines, including AirAsia and Malindo, to suspend flights from April 15 to 30.

Dr Noor Hisham said thermal scanners installed at airports will be used to screen passengers.

“We have to see how we can improve the screening process.”

Malaysia Airlines, in a statement today, also announced that flights from Kuala Lumpur to Miri and Kuching in Sarawak, and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah will be reinstated.

It will operate flights for the Kuala Lumpur-Kota Kinabalu-Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Lumpur-Miri-Kuala Lumpur sectors on Thursdays and for the Kuala Lumpur-Kuching-Kuala Lumpur sector on Fridays.

Meanwhile, its rural air service arm MAS Wings will reinstate services on the Kuching-Sibu-Kuching route while also maintaining the daily flight schedule on the Miri-Bintulu-Miri and Sibu-Bintulu-Sibu routes.

The move was made following requests from the Sabah and Sarawak governments.

As for Ramadan bazaars, Dr Noor Hisham said anything that could attract crowds would be a problem.

He said food delivery services could help in lieu of such bazaars. – April 14, 2020.

  • The DG has enough on his plate and now have to find the time and ways to improve screening process at the airports just because the government insists on flying again.

  • Why can't we have the DG endorsement for any matters that involved breaking the chain of the MCO, asshole Wee just want to made himself popular, this is a no brainer called since aids supply are on schedule without any hiccup. This will have human to human transmission at both ends which simply leads to a never ending for the already exhausted frontliners but does Wee cares???
