DR Noor Hisham Abdullah said 573 people in Kuala Lumpur’s Masjid India, which was today placed under the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO), have been tested for Covid-19.

“We have to wait 24 hours to get the results. We just started our active case detection there,” the director-general of health told a daily press conference on the coronavirus situation this evening.

Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob earlier today said the EMCO is effective today till April 28.

The lockdown imposed earlier on three buildings in the area – Menara City One, Selangor Mansion and Malayan Mansion – has also been extended by two weeks.

Dr Noor Hisham said active case detection will be conducted at EMCO areas, where everyone will be screened.

The first two phases of the MCO resulted in the number of cases staying below 5,000, he said, when they had been projected to hit 6,300 today.

According to US investment bank JP Morgan’s forecast, Malaysia would have recorded 6,300 cases by mid-April. – April 14, 2020.
