BUSINESS owners in the wider Masjid India area that has been placed under lockdown will be asked to share information on their workers for Covid-19 screening, said Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa.

The areas under the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO), which is effective today till April 28, include Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Melaka and Jalan Ampang.

“We seek the cooperation of business owners in these areas to give information on their workers for screening purposes,” Annuar told a press conference today.

“This is to control the spread of the virus. There are places that are rented by workers that are not on our list, so we need them to come forward.”

About 3,200 people live in the Menara City One condominium, and 1,650 at Selangor and Malayan Mansions – three buildings in the area that were previously placed under the EMCO.

To date, 88 infections have been detected at Selangor and Malayan Mansions, which are flats housing mostly foreign workers, and 39 at Menara City One.

Annuar said there are another 850 people living in the same area.

The Federal Territories crisis management committee will meet to discuss logistics, including providing food to residents, and increased manpower in the expanded EMCO area.

“We don’t want this to be another Sri Petaling tabligh cluster with people going to other areas or even overseas (and spreading the virus),” said Annuar.

“This area is in the heart of the city, and if uncontrolled, our workload will keep increasing.”

The expanded EMCO area was announced earlier today by Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob on behalf of the National Security Council.

He said the decision was made on the health minister’s advice. – April 14, 2020.
