Unfair to harp on Umno men on trial, says Hadi

THE people’s welfare is the new government’s concern rather than whether Umno leaders who are facing trial will be given cabinet posts, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

He said such questions were unfair, as “the other side” also had leaders embroiled in court cases who were acquitted.

“What’s important is to save the country from the current political crisis.

“If you want to accuse leaders who are facing court trials, the other side also has leaders who were acquitted,” Hadi said at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

He was asked about the inclusion of Umno leaders charged with corruption in the new cabinet under Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who took his oath of office today.

Hadi added that he expected Muhyiddin to hold talks with parties in his government on cabinet positions soon.

PAS is also in the government, and together with Umno were part of a plot to form a new government with former Pakatan Harapan party Bersatu, of which Muhyiddin is president.

PAS has 18 MPs and Umno 39, and together form the biggest bloc in the new government.

Hadi did not cite examples, but a case that became political fodder against PH was the acquittal of ex-finance minister Lim Guan Eng on charges of that he bought a bungalow in Penang at below market price, while he was the state’s chief minister.

After PH won federal power in the May 2018 general election, Lim was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal by the Penang High Court in September, after the prosecution withdrew its case. – March 1, 2020.

  • Unfair? Whats fair in this situation? You yourself there are politicians on the PH side that were ACQUITTED. This means they were found innocent. The UMNO leaders are on trial and have not been acquitted. In fact they have been shown to be unprincipled and greedy as well as criminal in their actions.

  • Acquited because found not guilty. Those on trial are still to be determined whether guilty or not. Silly you for drawing such a childish parallel. ... How old are you?

  • You are concerned about the peoples welfare? Really? Why then are people in Kelantan suffering from floods and jobless situation? Why would you buy Mercedes for yourselves when you had no money to pay salaries? And your religion says its ok to steal as long as you care for the welfare of the people? Shame shame shame
