PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was non-committal when asked if the Islamist party will support Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin if a no-confidence motion was raised against him in Parliament.
He said the matter is an assumption and there is no indication that such a motion will be raised when the Dewan Rakyat convenes.
The issue of a vote of no-confidence against Muhyiddin, who was sworn in as Malaysia’s 8th prime minister this morning, was raised by Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who said Pakatan Harapan (PH) wants an emergency sitting of the Dewan Rakyat to verify Muhyiddin’s support to be prime minister from among MPs.
Dr Mahathir and PH are disputing the support that Muhyiddin claims he has.
If Muhyiddin fails a motion of no-confidence in Dewan Rakyat, Parliament can be dissolved to pave the way for snap elections.
PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin said earlier today that fresh elections are the best way to resolve the dispute over the numbers.
Hadi, when asked about Hashim’s remarks, said: “The Agong has decided, it’s settled”.
Muhyiddin, who is Bersatu president, became prime minister in a plot with his party minus Dr Mahathir, Umno, PAS and ex-PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, to form a new government.
The 73-year-old also pulled Bersatu out of PH and has appointed himself party chairman, the post Dr Mahathir resigned from last Monday after rejecting a new government that would have Umno in it.
Dr Mahathir also resigned as prime minister and was appointed interim prime minister while the race to secure majority support from MPs began.
PAS has 18 MPs and Umno 39, and together form the biggest bloc in the new government under Muhyiddin. – March 1, 2020.

He never had the required majority at any point in time to be worthy of being PM.
A truly fake PM, and a coward, if he does not face Parliament on the 9th of March.
