DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has slammed a Penang Umno member for falsely accusing the DAP of selling identity cards and bringing in phantom voters.
Lim challenged Omar Faudzar, who is Bukit Gelugor Umno division chief, to show proof to back the allegations.
“He lied that DAP had brought phantom voters from India and China. This is an incitement to cause hate. His accusations are false,” Lim said during Federal Territory DAP convention in Jalan Pudu today.
Malay Mail Online had reported yesterday that Omar made the accusations against DAP at the Umno general assembly.
Omar alleged that high numbers of citizens from India and China did not have records of leaving the country and that there was an attempt to turn Chinese nationals into phantom voters during last year’s general election.
Lim said he has called all DAP members nationwide to lodge police reports so action will be taken against the accusations.
“DAP will never do anything illegal. Action must be taken against those who have made the false accusations.”
Lim said Omar has to show proof of the allegations of phantom voters.
“He says there are 3,000 Chinese and 1,000 Indian phantom voters.
“This is not accurate. So, show us proof.”
He also chided Omar for saying Lim wants to destroy the economic strength of the Malays by selling off government linked companies (GLCs).
“How long has Barisan Nasional been in government?
“Doesn’t he know that all GLCs are under the purview of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad?
“It’s not my purview and I’m not a board member of Khaanah Nasional Berhad.” – December 8, 2019.
