PARTI Warisan Sabah is collecting funds for the bail of its president, Shafie Apdal, when his remand ends on Friday.

Warisan vice-president Junz Wong said the party anticipated that Shafie’s bail would be set at RM300,000, after Silam Umno leader and Shafie’s younger brother, Yusof, had his bail set at RM100,000.

“There are more than three million people in Sabah. If they each donated RM10, we could raise that money from only 30,000 people.

“I believe many Sabahans want to be with Datuk Seri (Shafie) and support him,” said Wong, who is also Likas assemblyman, today.

Warisan is appealing for donations to be channelled to CIMB account number 1007-000-5602-058, which belongs to the law firm representing Shafie, Hamid and Co.

“This is a trust account that can be audited and be seen by anyone,” Wong said.

He added that there were concerns that Shafie’s assets might be frozen in the course of the investigation into the alleged embezzlement of RM1.5 billion in federal government funds meant for rural project in Sabah.

The probe led by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has swept up 13 people, including two of Shafie’s brothers, and several Warisan and Umno leaders.

Shafie was arrested on October 19 and was remanded for four days the following day. Yesterday, the court granted a four-day extension to Shafie’s remand.

Wong said he had not given his statement to police over an alleged illegal gathering at the Kota Kinabalu court complex during Shafie’s first remand hearing.

Wong, 10 other Warisan leaders, and Sabah PKR and Pakatan Harapan chairman Christina Liew were summoned by the police to have their statements taken over the gathering. – October 24, 2017.
