THE Dewan Rakyat was today adjourned for 10 minutes after medical assistance was called for Kuala Pilah MP Eddin Syazlee Shith.

“The House adjourns for a while to pay attention to the deputy minister,” said Deputy Speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon after taking note of the lawmaker’s condition.

Eddin is said to have felt nauseous about 10.30am after entering the chambers.

At 10.44am, the deputy communications and multimedia minister was taken to the Parliament clinic in a wheelchair.

According to Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii, Eddin is being referred to the National Heart Institute.

“He has a history of heart diseases. He has chest pain, chest tightness as well as shortness of breath.

“We just stabilised him,” Yii, who is also a medical doctor, told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

He said Eddin did not lose consciousness, but complained of tightness in the chest when he was waiting his turn to take questions.

Deputy Finance Minister and Kubang Pasu MP Amiruddin Hamzah informed Yii about Eddin’s condition, after which Yii rushed to his side to provide first aid.

At 11.15am, Eddin was brought out of the Parliament clinic on a stretcher by the medical team.

Meanwhile, Yii advised MPs to get enough rest and undergo health screenings, no matter how busy they are.

“MPs have perks to get themselves checked at government hospitals. But a lot of them are too busy with work.”

He reminded MPs that they could only serve the people to the best of their abilities if they are in good health.

Nibong Tebal MP Mansor Othman collapsed during an afternoon debate on October 23.

Mansor, a PKR member, was debating Budget 2020 when he passed out at 3.15pm, prompting fellow lawmakers to help him out of the hall. – November 11, 2019.
