A VOTE for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Tg Piai by-election next week is a vote for the police, said Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said the police have been pressured and their rights have been taken away since Pakatan Harapan (PH) took over the federal government last year.
Zahid added that PH disrespected the police, alleging many criminals have been freed from prosecution.
“We must support the police. We know how the police have been mistreated.”
“Why must I touch on the police? There are not many of them in Tg Piai but the force has been degraded. The government is not taking care of their wellbeing.
“If we win this by-election, indirectly, we are defending the cops and their families,” he said at a ceramah in Tg Piai last night.
Zahid was there with several BN leaders and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang where some 3,000 people attended.
Zahid, who is former deputy prime minister and home minister, said the current government has been using existing laws to suppress its political enemies.
“They are practising double standards. They are using the laws to protect themselves.
“The laws are unfair. They are being used against their enemies, especially me,” said Zahid, who is facing 87 corruption charges.
“The laws are misused and only for their gain. If we win on November 16, it means we reject the way they (PH) are handling the legal system in this country.”
BN is fielding Wee Jeck Seng of MCA. He was a former two-term MP in Tg Piai.
He is facing Karmaine Sardini (Bersatu) from PH, Wendy Subramaniam from Gerakan, Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz from Berjasa and two independent candidates. – November 7, 2019.
