
PUTRAJAYA is in the midst of reviewing the consultation fee for private general practitioners (GPs), Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad told the Dewan Rakyat today.
The cabinet decided on April 24, 2019 to let the National Cost of Living Action Council (Naccol) study the feasibility of a proposed fee hike before it made a decision.
The council has come back with the recommendation that the fee range be narrowed from the proposed range of RM30-RM125 and increased in phases.
In addition, the Health Ministry is also required to carry out a study on the impact of a fee hike on the consumer price index (CPI).
“I will bring this matter to the cabinet,” Dr Dzulkefly said.
The Statistics Department has been enlisted to study the impact of the hike on the CPI.
Dr Dzulkefly was responding to a question from Bagan Serai MP Noor Azmi Ghazali on the status of the 7,000 GPs’ application to raise fees, which have not been revised since 1992. – October 17, 2019.
