Umno, PAS won’t forget non-Muslims, says Tok Mat

UMNO is trying to reassure non-Malays and non-Muslims as the lynchpin Barisan Nasional party formalises its pact with PAS today, saying they will work on uniting the people later.

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said the top priority now is for the two largest Malay parties in the country to work together to achieve cohesion first before tackling unity among other races.

“To the non-Muslims, don’t be unduly worried. Ummah is the Arabic word for community. This means everyone is included,” Mohamad said while addressing supporters gathered at Putra World Trade Centre for the Penyatuan Ummah (Muslim unity) yesterday.

“But the first phase is to see Umno and PAS working together.”

They will then focus on unity of the nation once this is done, he said.

“We will build a unity that is bigger and wider. We will have a more pluralistic society,” he said to scores of Umno and PAS members and supporters clad in white at the foyer of Umno’s PWTC headquarters.

He then took aim at DAP, alleging that it wants to turn Malaysia into a republic.

“They want to make Malaysia a republic with their ‘Malaysia for Malaysians’ campaign, if they continue to rule, Malaysia will be a failed state.”

Also speaking at the event was PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who echoed Mohamad’s sentiments, saying that Umno ruled peacefully for 60 years whereas PAS ruled Kelantan for more than 30 years.

“There has not been chaos except for May 13,” he said, alluding to the racial riots in 1969.

“It is unlikely that our efforts will stir up racism in the country.”

He also fired a salvo at DAP, saying it can’t accept the rights of everyone except for itself. – September 14, 2019.

  • Won't forget for what? Open statement with full of vulnerability has no impact on educated Non Malay. When are u going to learn to be sincere and productive so that u can help the country better? Don't single out every time on race and religious issues that can only harm the economy and well being of the country. When economy is down turning, mostly Malay youngsters are jobless, so u guys are the Ain culprits of Malay unemployment. Malaysia is having the highest govt servant/population ratio in the world. It is 100% unsustainable, the Malays are good in creating a problem they eventually can't solve.

  • Any kid will see through your baloney! PAS and UMNO will not forget non Muslim? They asked Muslim not to buy non Muslim goods, they asked Muslim not to work with DAP race (I supposed that the race means Chinese Community because DAP has Muslim members also!) Aren't Chinese not non Muslim? These are all divisive words calculated to divide us as Muslim and non Muslim, come on you can merge with any party that you like and nobody has the right to object to it, but your words are not sincere, that I object! PAS was quite a clean party of yonder years, but now because of political consideration, you join with a party of looters, whose leaders were charged with over 100 charges of corruption is down right a great waste!

  • Delusional. Anyone who can think a Malaysia for all Malaysians is a bad thing is a racist.
