THREE employees of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) were forced by the management to swear by Allah that they were not behind a network malfunction at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), said a source.

The source from the airport operator told The Malaysian Insight the staff members, who were temporarily suspended, felt that they have been targeted unfairly over the glitch that lasted four days last month.

MAHB management called in the three staff members for questioning at the airport operator’s KLIA office at 10pm on August 26, the source said.

“Before the questioning began, their laptops, staff identity cards and mobile phone SIM cards were seized.

“As if that wasn’t enough, they were made to swear by Allah that they were not involved in the systems malfunction,” the source said.

After the questioning, the three were issued suspension letters and taken to the police station at klia2 for their statements to be recorded.

The staff members who each have served MAHB for around 20 years are now back at work.

The three are among the more than 70 people who have since been questioned by the police.

Selangor police chief Noor Azam Jamaludin told reporters it was too soon to come to a conclusion as investigations are ongoing and that there are awaiting reports from several experts, including CyberSecurity Malaysia.

The system glitch began on August 21, affecting flight information displays, check-ins, airport WiFi and causing baggage handling to be disrupted at the country’s main airport.

The airport management told passengers to arrive at least four hours early to go through manual check-in and deployed 1,000 additional staffers to manage the situation.

Systems were stabilised four days later but on August 26, MAHB in a press statement said it did not dismiss the possibility of sabotage.

Subsequently, four of its IT staff members lodged police reports to deny any involvement in the system malfunction.

As of a week ago, an MAHB spokesman said it had not received any compensation claim over the disruption from airlines. – September 14, 2019.

  • Malaysia is blessed with multi racial society but there is one race always think his race is supreme and deserve previledges. This is the key to most problems in govt organizations. We see mostly failures in GLCs managed by purely one race. Bailing out these companies become a way of norm without shame. What integrity and dignity this race has? What u perform is how the public judge u, don't blame others for your shabby outcomes and questionable or controversial policies. Previledges to national schools being down the education standard year by year but without any feel of shame, every year said need to bring down the passing mark to show a steady progress of student performance. The greatest shame of the decades.

    • James Wong you blatantly make such a great comment not really knowing that the non Malays also serving in GLC and causing the blunder performance as well. Lets not kid ourselves that there is also one race thinking they are better than everyone or better than all the other races in the world, that they are the only contributor to the country economy and the only people with intergrity while single handedly running the biggest black market economy which are bigger than the glc and are not even taxed. Lets not get into the human trafficking industry putting Malaysia in the world map as the most serious human trafficking nation. That same race also causing problem in every single country in the world challengging the constitution, masterminding illicit bussinesses, gangsterism, selfish and greedy, blatant disrespect over the local rights. You are lucky you are born in Malaysia to enjoy rights not even given even in the uk or us. In other countries such disrespect for the constitution and law would never be tolerated. And soo much for race superiority, when your race are in power now the economy has gone down the drain and more cover ups, pollution and enviromental degradation. Maybe you shouldnt have brought up the race card in the first place. Everyone knows most of your race uses fake qualification in the job market. I hope the government come heavy on dealing with fake bussinesses, fake qualifications and fake goods. Then we know who is the real culprit.
