POLITICIANS should discuss racial issues responsibly, said Bersatu supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
Speaking at a forum today, Wan Saiful said ethnic relations have become an area of concern as racial issues have been politicised.
“There is one area that I am really concerned about, which is ethnic relations.”
Wan Saiful said ethnic issues are not being discussed in a calm, rational and measured manner.
“This is an area where many people are talking about, but not many are discussing it in a calm, rationae and measured way,” he added.
He said there are politicians out there who have no qualms about dividing the nation by politicising matters to retain power.
“If I can make a call to my colleagues, (then) let’s discuss it in a rational way.
“There are things politicians say that can unite or divide the country,” said Wan Saiful, who is also the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) chairman.
He said there was a need for responsible politics, and that Pakatan Harapan fought under the banner of unity.
MCA Youth chairman Nicole Wong, who shared the stage with Wan Saiful, said racial politics are outdated.
She hopes that with the voting age being lowered to 18, discussions among youth on policy matters will take place without involving race and religion. – August 29, 2019.
