POLICE have hit a brick wall in their investigations into a mystery shot fired at the Pekan Umno division office just months before the 14th general election.
Acting Pekan police chief Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin told The Malaysian Insight that no arrest could be made in the case.
“Yes, there was a police report made over the matter. We have conducted our investigations, but were not able to arrest anyone.
“So far, no one has been arrested. And without any suspects, we don’t know the motive of the shot,” he said.
He said the police report stated that the Umno division office was shot at by a sniper in November 2017.
The report was lodged on November 13, 2017.
Yesterday, former prime minister Najib Razak said a sniper fired at the Pekan Umno division office.
The Pekan MP said the incident led him to beef up his security detail as he was prime minister at the time.
“A sniper had shot into my room at the (Umno) office in Pekan.
“At the time, the sniper knew I wasn’t in, but the person wanted to send a message,” he said at the Hard Truth: Cash is King forum at Umno headquarters last night.
Najib said the bullet came from a sniper rifle from a distance of 200m and hit the mirror in his office.
“The mirror was not broken. But there were signs that a bullet had been shot… targeting me as the Pekan chief,” he said.
Najib said the shot was a warning to him.
He said the incident was reported to the police, but the authorities could not identify the culprit. – August 8, 2019.
