THE sessions court judge arrested by anti-graft officers yesterday will be remanded today at Putrajaya Hospital, where he is being treated for chest pains, said sources.
The 45-year-old is among nine suspects picked up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly accepting bribes in exchange for the release of illegal immigrants.
Sources told The Malaysian Insight that the judge complained of chest pains after he was arrested in Kuala Kubu Baru and brought to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
MACC chief Latheefa Koya yesterday said the judge was part of the illegal immigrant racket. Last week, the agency arrested eight people in the same case – a deputy public prosecutor, a lawyer and police officers.
The cops are a corporal, a sergeant, investigating officers and a court policeman.
Investigations are being conducted under Section 16(A)(B) of the MACC Act for bribery.
The Malaysian Insight broke the story with a report that MACC found RM17,500 on the lawyer, who is said to have facilitated the release of nine illegals.
Another RM85,000, believed to be from illegal activities, was seized from the DPP. – July 23, 2019.
