CARELESSNESS had caused the Public Works Department (PWD) to pay twice for the acquisition of land for the East Coast Economic Region Development (ECER), according to the Auditor-General’s Report Series 1 2018.
The report said the department had paid RM93,095 despite only having to pay RMRM46,547.50 in compensation for the acquisition of the land.
“The extra payment of RM46,547.50. was due to the carelessness of the JKR which had made double payments.”
The report added that although attempts have been made to reclaim the excess payment, it was to no avail.
The department scored the lowest among the 17 government departments scrutinised by the National Audit Department.
However, it was still rated as good. – July 15, 2019.
