Umno members still after wealth and power, even after GE14, says Annuar Musa

DESPITE Umno losing federal power, the jockeying for position and wealth among its members remain a problem in the party, said Annuar Musa.

Umno’s secretary-general said if the party wanted to recapture power, its leaders and members must rid themselves of this attitude as this was among the reasons it was dumped in the 14th general election by voters.

“We are affected by power and wealth; and it’s an illness we just can’t cure ourselves of.

“Umno is not a party to gather wealth. It is the party that came into being when this country had no wealth, no assets, no knowledge and when there was nothing. It was formed before the first general election,” he said at the opening of the Kuala Selangor Umno Wanita, Youth and Puteri delegates’ meeting today.

In the last general election, the lynchpin Barisan Nasional party and its partners lost federal power to the Pakatan Harapan pact.

It is now grappling with a dire financial situation after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission filed a civil forfeiture suit to recover RM270 million in 1Malaysia Development Bhd funds from 41 individuals.

MACC chief Latheefa Koya said of the RM270 million, RM212 million was received by Umno.

Shortly after MACC filed the application, RM2 million was returned, Latheefa added.

Former Umno president Najib Razak, current party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and treasurer Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor are all facing a slew of corruption charges.

Annuar said Malays were fighting for their rights not because they were born into the race but because Islam demanded they uphold the religion and its administration in the country.

“If this country had been colonised by Muslims, Umno would not exist. If the Portugese, Dutch and Thais were Muslim, the party would not have been formed,” he said.

“For 446 years, this land was ruled by non-Muslims. It is the spirit of Islam that motivated us to unite and seek indepence,” he said. – July 13, 2019.

  • What rubbish are you talking. It is really reflecting your stupidity. Ain't Umno a Muslim party ?? and why did the country goes into a dump. Ain't you Umno leaders greedy for power and wealth and now ain't it the infamous DNAs in your race that is associated with such greeds and corruption. Think before you talk and if the Indians , Portuguese , Dutch or even British fully colonised Malaya and enforced cultural and religious change do you think you are still able to talk about your ketuanan , bangsa dan agama. If only China instead of just passing thru for trade during Admiral Cheng Ho but being fully conquered , you will will not be Anuar Musa but Ang Wah Sa. Stop using Islam as your devious political strategy . You are soiling Islam.
