FINANCE Minister Lim Guan Eng today denied that he was opposed to Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd’s proposed takeover of highway concessionaire PLUS Malaysia Bhd

The opposition came from PLUS’ main shareholders, Khazanah Nasional Bhd and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), he said.

“We have received many requests from various parties. We make decisions based on the interests of the main shareholders.

“Here is where Khazanah and EPF didn’t agree,” Lim told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

He was commenting on a report by business paper The Edge Weekly which said the Finance Ministry was opposed to Maju Holdings’ takeover of PLUS.

The Edge reported Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s interest in Maju Holdings’ offer and his claim that it was Lim who “didn’t want it”.

Dr Mahathir also reportedly said Maju Holdings was the sole party to have made an offer for PLUS.

Lim said he will meet with Maju Holdings’ management for a briefing on its latest offer.

“The final decision will still be by the prime minister. I will still meet with Maju as they have a new offer,” he said. – July 11, 2019.
