FORENSIC expert Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi this morning gave a demonstration to the coroner’s court on how fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim could have suffered injuries while exiting an emergency vehicle in a hurry.
The Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) expert enacted his theory for coroner Rofiah Mohamad, lawyers and court officers with an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle brought to the Shah Alam High Court.
Dr Hafizam also explained how Adib could have been hurt after being slammed against the moving vehicle’s door.
The briefing by Dr Hafizam started at 10.30am at a covered car park zone in the rear of the court complex and ended at noon.
Yesterday, Dr Hafizam told the court that said Adib’s injuries and the situation on the ground were not consistent with force being inflicted on the fireman.
“The victim exited in a hurry and struck the left-hand corner of the EMRS van door.
“This resulted in him suffering abrasions on the left side of his hip and breaking seven ribs,” he had said.
Dr Hafizam had dismissed the opinion of another expert, Prof Dr Shahrom Abd Wahid, who concluded that Adib was pulled out of the vehicle and crushed between the van’s sliding doors.
He said there were discrepancies in the forensic experiments carried out by Dr Shahrom, a senior consultant forensic pathologist.
The inquest continues after lunch. – May 15, 2019.
