SARAWAK Tourism, Art, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Abdul Karim Hamzah today accused Gobind Singh Deo of not fully grasping his duties as communications and multimedia minister.

Karim, who is voicing his dissatisfaction over RTM coverage of the Sarawak government, said “DAP from Sarawak is feeding” Gobind and hinted that special functions officer in Sarawak, DAP man Dusit Jaul, is directing RTM’s coverage of Gabungan Parti Sarawak.

Jaul, a former senior federal officer, was appointed to the position in January.

“When you are the minister, make decision yourself. Use your brain, a little.”

Karim acknowledged that Gobind is new to the job but said he (Gobind) “should learn from the experienced administrators in RTM” how the broadcaster should be managed.

He again accused Gobind of using RTM for his party’s agenda.

Karim on Tuesday lashed at RTM and the Communications and Multimedia Ministry in the state legislative for turning the national broadcaster into “a tool to divide the nation”.

He said Gobind’s policy was no different from the ousted Barisan Nasional government.

RTM however, rebutted Karims claims saying the claims were “baseless” and that “RTM has done its level best to cover all activities in the state”.

The national broadcaster in its defence, stated in the first four months of this year, it had provided coverage to 181 activities involving the chief minister, ministers and the state government.

RTM had, in a statement yesterday, stated the reports were also aired in various languages and local dialects.

“Ya, they covered 181 activities involving the chief minister, ministers and the state government but we are not stupid.

“Just take a look at what they aired.

“Even though they might cover the chief minister’s function, they won’t show the face of the chief minister.”

That, Karim said, is playing politics
