HEALTHY food has never looked as good and appetising as at Nourish by Kenny Hills Bakers in Kuala Lumpur. Our thick slice of Farmer’s Corn Bread, topped with smashed avocado salad and sitting on mixed bean chilli just invited us to dig in. We loved it, this crumbly, moist corn bread studded with fresh corn and black beans, the creamy avocado adding a little tartness, while the mildly hot mixed bean chilli brought it all together.
It was wholly vegetarian, delightful and nourishing. Eating right is easy to do at this cafe. You have a choice of organic, gluten-free and dairy-free meals, but you don’t have to opt for the last two if you are not suffering from any allergies.
Nourish is a feast for the eyes when you enter, as they alight on the trays of baked goodies. Should you have that Beef Cheek Portobello Mushroom Pie, Spinach Quiche, Cauliflower Cheese Muffin, Vegetable Frittata Cup or Corn Bread? There is such a variety of salads that you may end up having two salads on one plate like we did.

This was the chopped kale and avocado salad and the potato salad with sour cream and burnt butter. The first had fresh and crunchy kale with sweet corn, cherry tomatoes, avocado and hemp seeds tossed in a light, sweet dressing. We liked this and the potato salad which was touched with the aroma of burnt butter and rich with sour cream.
Nasi Dagang (RM36) was our second main course, served with tenggiri curry and ulam. The rice had rich hints of coconut but it was a little too soft. The curry was light and yellow with turmeric and fragrant with lemongrass. For me the highlight of this was the large piece of fresh tenggiri fillet in the curry.
For those on a high-protein diet, the Moroccan Spiced lamb Meatballs with tomato concasse and herbs (RM34) would fit the bill, as well Grass-fed Ribeye Roast Beef with black pepper sauce and Dijon mustard (RM36) and Asian Chargrilled Free-range Chicken with Percik Sauce (RM34).

Vegetarians have a choice of Crispy Falafel with garlic lemon tahini dressing (RM28) or Balinese Style Pan-fried Tofu with black pepper soy sauce, ginger and chilli (RM28).
For dessert we had the super moist Orange Polenta Cake well infused with orange zest. It had the texture of a sugee cake, with citrusy notes. We couldn’t stop eating it. Flourless Dark Chocolate Cake, Egg Tart, Nutella Mud Cake and Pecan Pie are other tempting desserts.
The cafe serves a very good, flaky and buttery croissant which we enjoyed at the start of lunch.
