NAJIB Razak questioned the moral obligation of the Pakatan Harapan government, pointing out that it had not fulfilled its election manifesto since the people voted them into power.
“If they promise something, then they must do it. A large number of people gave their votes based on promises in PH manifesto.
“Now the people are questioning the moral obligation of this government,” Najib said at the ‘New Malaysia Politics’ townhall session at the Putra World Trade Centre today.
He said keeping promises was an important principle for a government in a democracy, since voters had made a “contract” with those they elected based on promises made.
The PH government must take this seriously, he added, as it was about “principle and the rule of law”.
“If we make promises and don’t fufil them, then we better not be the government,” he said.
Najib said that he feels sad because his vision to transform Malaysia as an advanced economy nation where not a single citizen will be left behind.
“The gap between the rich and poor will be minimised – that was my personal dream for the country.
“But today, when anyone is asked what is Malaysia Baru, no one can answer. It is just a slogan but what is the content? It’s nothing.
“One important principle that we have to understand is that, in a democracy, we have a contract between the people and those who have made promises (government),” he said. – April 6, 2019.
