RAFIDAH Aziz has taken aim at ministers with a penchant for social media, where some national policies have been announced.
The former international trade and industry minister said there are some who have put their foot in their mouth by making “half-baked announcements” on policies via platforms like Twitter.
“You are not Donald Trump… to make announcements on Twitter,” she said at an event in Shah Alam today, referring to the US president notorious for his online gaffes.
While it is alright to give explanations on issues via social media, she said, it is unacceptable to use it to announce policies.
“Is the word limit (on Twitter) enough to make such announcements?
“The rakyat will question if you are wrong… why so foolish?”
Rafidah added that she was invited to give a talk to cabinet members and other officials last December, due to her long experience in the government.
“This has never happened before. I was talking for an hour… in the presence of the prime minister.”
She said government officials should discuss with stakeholders before making announcements online.
“Once it’s out on Twitter, the prime minister has to come to your rescue,” said the Economic Action Council member.
Rafidah, popularly known as the “Iron Lady”, said a nation cannot be governed through social media.
She did not name the ministers she was referring to. – April 1, 2019.
