Khairy told off for ‘Taliban’ remark in Parliament

REMBAU MP Khairy Jamaluddin was today reprimanded by Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Nga Kor Ming for using the word “Taliban”.

Nga asked Khairy to retract the word he had uttered in Parliament when asking Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng questions about the federal government’s Cost of Living Aid programme.

“We have to make it a point not to provoke one another while the session is going on smoothly. This is regrettable and this is something we shouldn’t emulate,” Nga said when reprimanding Khairy.

Earlier, Khairy had, in his oral question, accused the Pakatan Harapan government of using the aid to woo voters in the upcoming Rantau by-election.

Noting that the government had tabled the Supplementary Budget Bill yesterday, Khairy asked if its  purpose was to obtain more funds ahead of the by-eleciton next month.

“In conjunction with the Rantau by-election, will there be an announcement on higher allowance for singles (under the Cost of Living Aid)? Do you have a problem understanding, Taliban?” Khairy said, alluding to Nga, who earlier this month had said that the Umno-PAS cooperation was akin to “Taliban rule in Malaysia” should it win federal power.

Nga, who is also Taiping MP, had said this to the Chinese press at an event in Perak and later refused to apologise after being criticised by opposition politicians.

Khairy later retracted the remark after Nga’s telling off.

In answering Khairy, Lim denied that the funds requested under the supplementary bill would be used for the election.

“Being a more experienced person, I believe YB, you would know that the supplementary bill was for last year (2018) and not this year,” Lim said.

The government tabled the supplementary bill asking Parliament to approve an additional RM15.5 billion to top up expenses under the 2018 Budget. – March 28, 2019.

  • Khairy if you still harbour the hopes to be PM in future ---------------- GROW UP !!!!. stop being childish and still relying on the silly archaic cries of " Bangsa dan Agama " which are a short term patented ideas of Umno for their political rabble rouser strategy but will be fizzling out and bankrupted when economic woes takes high precedence. You are so much better than those whom you are mingling in UmnoPAS. You are just dragging yourself and soley yourself to blame for the rakyat deem the UmnoBNPAS collabrations as revolting. Come out of from the stupid partnership and start a real multi racial third force party of younger , highly ducated and matured in thoughts politicians to take on both PH and UmnoBNPAS. If you are good there will be enough of public or crowd funding by rakyat to see it thru. The time is ripe as the frustrations of Malaysian are almost at the limits with clowns in the parliament.

    • Hello, who started the use of the word Taliban in the first place. Typical. When hit back, that same group will talk about not using bangsa etc when they are the ones who use the word first..

    • Only small minded man will harp on the same issues which I am seeing in you. Even one posting also not enough but have to repeat to show the message across either due to system error or human error. It shows something isn't it.!!!! If do not like to be called Taliban then show it out by being more advance in thoughts rather then behaving like tribal culture of "sombong bodoh" .
