NURUL Izzah Anwar quitting posts is nothing new, said PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin, following the MP’s move to resign from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Zuraida said the Permatang Pauh lawmaker previously stepped down as PKR vice-president and from the special Technical and Vocational Education and Training task force, among other posts.

“We (PKR) celebrate differences in opinion. It is up to the president (Anwar Ibrahim) to look into it (Nurul Izzah’s resignation from PAC) and decide on the action to be taken. So, I leave it to him,” she told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Last week, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Ronald Kiandee will remain as PAC chairman despite the Beluran MP having joined Bersatu.

This runs counter to Pakatan Harapan’s election pledge to have the parliamentary committee headed by a member of the opposition.

Kiandee was with Umno when he took up the post.

Following Dr Mahathir’s remarks, Nurul Izzah quit PAC in protest.

Since her resignation, the prime minister has said a new chairman will be considered.

Zuraida said her first reaction (when she heard about PAC) was to give advice.

“PAC must meet the ministers involved and discuss the issues.” – March 27, 2019.
