THE Attorney-General’s Chambers’ appeal for an arrest warrant for former Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) director Professor Dr Sundra Rajoo will be heard tomorrow.
Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali will decide on the AGC’s application to review sessions court justice Azura Alwi’s decision today to not issue the warrant, said deputy public prosecutor Kamal Baharin Omar.
Another high court (appellate and special powers) hearing on a judicial review application by Sundra will be held simultaneously tomorrow.
He has applied for that court, to be presided by judge Nordin Hassan, to decide whether he is immune from prosecution.
Earlier today, Azura ruled that Sundra must be present tomorrow afternoon to inform the sessions court of the high court’s decision regarding his immunity.
Sundra was not required to be present at this morning’s proceedings.
Prosecutors had attempted to file for an arrest warrant for Sundra, in relation to three criminal charges.
Sundra claims he has diplomatic immunity as AIAC director, saying the role is similar to that of an ambassador or a high commissioner.
He resigned last year, following damning allegations against him in an anonymous letter that was sent to ministers, the inspector-general of police and the attorney-general, among others.
The letter alleged that he had used the centre’s funds to ensure ministers extended his contract.
Sundra’s judicial review application named the foreign minister, attorney-general, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and government as respondents. – March 25, 2019.
