NAJIB Razak’s lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah told the Court of Appeal today that his left wrist has almost recovered after he reportedly broke it earlier this week when his pet dog jumped on him.

On Tuesday, Shafee cited his injury in requesting an adjournment of the Court of Appeal’s hearing of an appeal related to Najib’s case involving RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd’s funds.

A three-judge panel led by Justice Zabariah Mohd Yusof agreed to adjourn the hearing to today.

Shafee, who had earlier on Tuesday attended the mention of former Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan’s murder case in Shah Alam, said he was already “experiencing severe pain to my wrist” the day before, before the injury worsened.

“But because I had already made arrangements in this court, as well as with Samirah (Muzaffar, Nazrin’s widow) in the Shah Alam court, I turned up in both courts in spite of the pain,” he told reporters outside the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya.

“People forget that I actually turned up at the Putrajaya Court of Appeals that day because I thought I could manage,” said Shafee.

“The pain was unbearable and the swelling was getting larger.”

Internet users had reacted in disbelief to Shafee’s claims of injury, with some speculating that Najib’s defence team was resorting to delay tactics.

The former prime minister has been charged with 10 counts of money laundering, criminal breach of trust, and abuse of power over sums of RM42 million and RM47 million. SRC is a former subsidiary of sovereign wealth fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

The matter in the appeals court today is one of four interlocutory applications Najib has made in relation to his SRC charges. – March 15, 2019.
