BN can wrest Selangor if it wins Semenyih, says Ku Li

THE opposition has a chance of grabbing back Selangor in the next elections if it wins the Semenyih by-election, said Umno advisory council chairman Tengku Razaleigh Tengku Hamzah.

He rallied opposition supporters to put on a united front as seen in last month’s Cameron Highlands by-election, where Barisan Nasional retained the seat by a bigger majority than the 14th general election last May.

“Let the opposition be united even if the ruling coalition is not,” he said at a late-night ceramah in Bandar Seri Putra yesterday.

“We can bring change to Semenyih if we are united. If change occurs here, it is possible for us to retain Selangor in the next general election.”

Such a change is best for the country because Pakatan Harapan lacked stability, he said, with the component parties pursuing their own agendas.

“I am not sneering at them, but many people are praying for Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to remain in good health because should anything untoward happen, the country will be in chaos.

“With the issues plaguing PKR and the overall situation within PH, just imagine what could happen, with DAP now controlling the important ministries.”

Pakatan Harapan is a coalition of four parties – Bersatu, Amanah, PKR and DAP.

The Gua Musang MP said PH components have failed to iron out issues among themselves and the pact has not fulfilled its election promises.

“I think it is a game of chess among them. The people have been patient. This is what you can expect for the remainder of their term.

“Is this what we are waiting for, especially in a bad economic situation where the prices of commodities, such as palm oil, rubber and crude oil, have been falling?”

Present at the ceramah were PAS research director Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki, Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa and Umno Supreme Council member Alwi Che Ahmad.

BN has not won any state seat in Selangor since the 2008 elections. The pact, however, won the Hulu Selangor and Sg Besar parliamentary seats in 2010 and 2016, respectively.

The March 2 Semenyih by-election is a four-cornered contest between PH’s Muhammad Aiman Zainali, Zakaria Hanafi (BN), Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul (Parti Sosialis Malaysia) and Kuan Chee Heng (independent).

Early voting kicked off at 8am today. – February 26, 2019.

  • You can dream. Do not get carry away juz becos voters do want Semenyih to fall on others hand but not UmnoPAS. Ku Li stupid or what???

  • If PH loses its because PH didnt pick the right candidate to run. If the electorate is not happy with his father in law when he was the adun, why would they vote a relative of his. On top of that he is too young and inexperienced.
