AN idol found at the Sabilul Huda surau in Taman Pendamar Indah, Klang, yesterday afternoon is believed to have been stolen from a nearby house.
South Klang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli said a police report has been lodged by the owner of the idol.
“We received a police report from a 50-year-old man at 9.30am today.
“The man claimed to be the owner of the idol that was in his rented house, which is only about 50m away from the surau,” he said in a statement.
Shamsul said according to the report, the man last saw the statue at 4pm yesterday after cleaning and placing a garland on it.
He said the idol was not locked, and placed outside the front gate of the man’s house.
Shamsul said the statue is estimated to be worth about RM300.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 295 of the Penal Code for intention to disgrace one’s religion.
Earlier, surau official Mohd Yatim Omar, 64, had lodged a police report over the incident.
He said he found the statue when he opened the surau at 4.15pm for the Asar prayers.
Yatim then handed the idol to the police for further investigation. – February 21, 2019.
