Nearly 400 reports filed against elderly man who allegedly insulted Muhammad on Facebook

POLICE received 395 reports filed against an elderly man over a Facebook post that allegedly insulted the Prophet Muhammad and his wife Aishah.

Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the reports came for all over the country. 

The 68-year-old man is under investigation causing disharmony and promoting hatred or ill will on grounds of religion, as well as the for improper use of network facilities or network service, Fuzi said.

The 68-year-old was arrested at his home in Mentakab, Pahang, yesterday, and is in remand until Friday.

The case was transferred to Batu Pahat police for investigation.

The senior citizen had posted a crude caricature of Muhammad and his youngest wife Aishah, drawing an outcry from Muslims.

Fuzi, in a statement today, advised the public not to abuse the social media platforms by posting provocative statements or images. – February 20, 2019.
