HISHAMMUDDIN Hussein today said he was not aware of police’s work trips sponsored by number-forecasting firm Da Ma Cai under the Barisan Nasional government.
Hishammuddin, who was home minister from 2009 to 2013, said such a sponsorship should not be allowed.
“I don’t know if it is true. If it is, I don’t think it was the right thing to do. The party that sponsored the trips has its own interests, and should explain the matter,” he told reporters in Kajang.
Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun and other high-ranking officers’ recent trip to Turkey drew criticism after it was reported that the visit was sponsored by Da Ma Cai and approved by the Malaysian Totalisator Board, which is under the Finance Ministry.
Whistle-blower website Sarawak Report said some of the officers brought along their wives, and that they flew on business-class tickets and stayed at a posh hotel.
Following the expose, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said sponsorship for the trip was approved in 2017 by the then BN government.
Hishammuddin questioned why Lim had blamed BN, saying the Pakatan Harapan government could have cancelled the trip should it so wish.
“They said the trip was approved by BN. Lim has cancelled various things that were approved by the previous government. So, why blame BN for the trip?” – February 17, 2019.
