FEDERAL minister and Warisan number two Darell Leiking has appealed for calm over Bersatu’s entry into Sabah, saying the party’s president is now working to save Sabah from “evil people”.

It has been widely speculated that Bersatu will rope in former Sabah Umno leaders.

“At present, we want all Warisan members to remain calm and wait for the president’s statement over what has happened over the last 24 hours.

“I believe the president will come out with the right response or reaction tomorrow,” Leiking said, referring to Shafie Apdal who is also Sabah chief minister.

Leiking, who is also international trade and industry minister, said Bersatu’s entry into the state in spite of an earlier promise will not jeopardise the present state cabinet.

“You see, my position in the federal cabinet is up to the prime minister, I think the cabinet positions in Sabah is also under the prerogative of the chief minister,” he said after an event in Kota Kinabalu today.

Leiking, who is Penampang MP, is expected to meet Shafie later today.

Warisan members are looking to Shafie to announce the party’s plans to protest Bersatu’s entry to Sabah which was announced by Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday.

The development has angered not only Warisan grassroots members but also Sabah PKR and Sabah DAP as it is seen as a move to weaken the state government ruled by a local pact led by Warisan.

Leiking said Umno defectors who now wanted to join Bersatu are trying to find ways to come back to power and hopes Bersatu would stick to its policy of not giving government or political positions to elected reps who defect to the party. – February 16, 2019.

  • There is nothing for Warisan especially PKR and DAP Sabah to get angry about Bersatu entering Sabah!!
This is a democracy they have to remember.
PM/Bersatu will not enter Sabah especially after an alleged promise was made by Bersatu to Warisan..
So, Warisan... ask yourselves this question.. why has Bersatu changed its mind? Why go against the alleged pledge it made to Warisan?
You people are not forthcoming in your political drive to n the state. Its like you won the state election in GE14 but operating within a little cocoon! Shafie and team dont seem they can deliver. Its about confidence levels. I believe the PM is worried Sabah will be lost at the next GE15, especially with GBS gaining momentum.
To the DAP and PKR factions in Sabah, go ask your leadership LGE, LKS, DSAI and Azmin!
They are all part of PH which Bersatu is also a part of. So, there is no damn reason for you factions in Sabah to get angry!!!
All these anger by the individual reps of the component parties are only due to one reason, and one reason only... THEY ARE ALL THREATENED THAT THEY WILL LOSE THE ONE SHOT THEY HAVE AT POLITICS AND MAKING THE BEST USE OF THAT POSITION.. IF OTHERS ARE KEPT OUT. But By BERSATU entering the fray, it complicates and dilutes WARISANs role and hence their opportunities will also fade.

  • So in other words, they are there for their own selfish reasons and not for the PEOPLE!!! Poor thing, the people of Sabah - they are just being manipulated..
But to be fair, there are ministers and others who sincerely work for the benefit of the people. But in every crate of milk cartons, there will be done spoilt ones...
Btw, I was recently told that one of the ministers in the Sabah Assembly made a comment that there should be separate office lifts for ministers.. just because members of the public or office workers share the same lift..
Can anyone confirm the statement by the arrogant minister?

  • I have heard Sabahans complain that the chnage of government in GE14 has brought no change to their lives. Things continue as they are and this is very disappointing. It was hoped that Warisan would make a difference but this has yet to happen. Instead pledges given are now being ignored particularly with the proposed planto develop a public beach front. PKR Sabah and DAP Sabah are just upset that Bersatu whom they expected to be a weak partner is now gaining strength day by day and that they will be eclipsed. Well if PKR and DAP will just focus on their jobs and deliver tangible and measurable results this would not be an issue. PKR and DAP should start delivering. They are too slow and constantly seem to be enamoured only with the past deeds of BN. The Rakyat know or suspect that BN did not act for their benefit and hence had the good sense to vote them out. So there is no need to regurgitate this most of the time. Show us what u are doing to bring us a better quality of life
