THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has detained the special officer to the deputy Treasury secretary-general over suspected bribery.
The suspect is believed to have demanded RM1.5 million from a company in exchange for a contract award.
The officer, who was arrested yesterday, was brought to the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court at 9am today for a remand order.
The officer, a 39-year-old woman, was remanded for five days until February 19 to assist in investigations into the bribery, which took place at the end of last year.
She is believed to have demanded the money from an agent representing a property company as an incentive to secure the approval of the Treasury deputy secretary-general over a tender for government-owned property in Hong Kong.
Sources close to the investigation said the woman had so far only received a portion of the bribe demanded.
Other individuals may be called by investigators to provide their statements, sources added.
The woman was detained by anti-graft officers at the Finance Ministry yesterday evening. β February 15, 2019.
