THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is welcome to look into Umno again over allegations that the party had given RM90 million to PAS, said Annuar Musa.
The Umno secretary-general said the commission had already scrutinised its accounts and could tell if any money was passed to the Islamist party.
Annuar said this included transactions by former party president Najib Abdul Razak.
“Our accounts have already been checked by MACC. They should have found it by now as RM90 million is a huge amount,” he said.
Annuar was met by reporters in Kota Kinabalu after confirming the appointments of Sabah Umno’s divisional leaders.
Leaders from both political parties and civil society groups have called on MACC to probe into the alleged RM90 million given to PAS.
This comes after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang decided to settle his suit against Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown out of court.
The suit was over the website’s claims about the Islamist party receiving funds from Umno.
MACC confirmed it has already received a report over the matter and an investigation is underway.
Annuar said he believed the investigation into the RM90 million may have been triggered by the cooperation between Umno and PAS in the Cameron Highlands by-election.
Umno won the by-election on January 26.
“I believe the case may be related to the Cameron Highlands by-election. Some of the Pakatan Harapan leaders saw (our cooperation) as a threat.
“But the PH government should also take a look at itself. More of the rakyat have become disgusted with their leaders,” he said. – February 8, 2019.
