FORMER Sabah Umno reps who abandoned the party last year will face legal action in due time, Annuar Musa warned.
The Umno secretary-general said the party intends to go through with the court action even if it takes time and even if the MPs and assemblymen wish to come back to Umno.
“The summons will not be over their defection as the courts have decided it is their right to leave.
“But they had violated their contractual obligations to the party (that came with standing for election) under the party banner and had received funds from the party,” he told reporters in Kota Kinabalu, today.
Annuar did not specify which law would be invoked in the cases against the former Umno members .
The Umno leader was in town to hand over the appointment letters of the state division and wing chiefs.
On December 12 last year, nine Sabah reps and five MPs left Umno, citing loss of confidence in the party leadership.
Annuar said the reps who were given the mandate to contest are bound by the party constitution and duty-bound to fulfil their obligations.
Annuar said party intended to go through with the court action if it takes time and even if the reps wished to come back to Umno.
Meanwhile, Annuar said Umno is unfazed by Bersatu’s plans to penetrate Sabah, a state that he says his party considers to be crucial. – February 8, 2019.
