CURRENT and former PAS leaders have been summoned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for investigation into the allegation that the Islamist party received RM90 million from Umno three years ago.
PAS central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz, Amanah vice-president Husam Musa and former PAS deputy president Dr Nasharudin Mat Isa are expected to have their statements recorded by the anti-graft agency today.
Sources told The Malaysian Insight they are among the four individuals who are listed as important witnesses in the probe into reports that PAS leaders were paid RM90 million from scandal-ridden 1Malaysia Development Bhd via Umno.
Souces said Nik Abduh will give his statement at MACC’s Kelantan office while Husam dan Nasharudin have appointments at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
Husam had previously said he had the details of the alleged transactions between PAS and Umno leaders.
More witnesses will be called up for their statements after the three, sources said.
The case is back in the public eye after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang withdrew his defamation suit against Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown in relation to the allegations contained in an article she wrote. His offer to settle the case was accepted by the defendant, who also agreed to withdraw her countersuit.
The terms of settlement are undisclosed.
PAS said there was no need to waste more money pursuing a suit over a “baseless” article.
Hadi had filed a defamation suit in the London High Court on the article written by Rewcastle-Brown alleging that the topmost PAS leadership had received funds amounting to RM90 million to support Umno and BN.
Hadi’s lawyers from the firm Carter-Ruck filed an injunction, seeking damages for the article entitled “As Najib denies all over 1MDB, let’s not forget his many other criminal connections”. – February 8, 2019.
