THERE will be no cabinet reshuffle, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad, putting an end to speculation that changes to the line-up will be made after Chinese New Year.
“There is no cabinet reshuffle,” said the prime minister after attending a CNY open house at the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, today.
“All rumours about a cabinet reshuffle are fake news.
“I will stick with my cabinet.”
Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said she has not heard about plans for a reshuffle, and asked that the media seek clarification from Dr Mahathir himself.
The rumour mill had gone into full tilt following an Utusan Malaysia report, citing a blog, that said Dr Mahathir had agreed to replace Dr Wan Azizah with Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.
The blog in question, Anotherbrickinthewall, said a reshuffle would take place after CNY, but did not substantiate the claim.
Azmin was today discharged from a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur after a six-day stay.
It is believed that the PKR deputy president underwent surgery for kidney stones, with party sources saying it is not the first time he has undergone such an operation. – February 6, 2019.
